EVENTS

Membership in one of the AGC member clubs can offer many opportunities for shooting your favorite firearms in your favorite shooting sports, in a pleasant and safe atmosphere. Membership in an AGC club provides the opportunity to participate in club-level shooting events along the shooting-sport focus areas of the club and its membership. Some clubs tend to focus on some or all modern firearms, including pistol, smallbore and high power rifle, and shotgun clay target sports. Other clubs may be principally interested in muzzle loading black powder firearms and their traditional-type match events. In all cases, each club develops its own annual "calendar" of shooting events, reserves the necessary AGC range(s), and provides, through its membership and range facilities, the infrastructure and camaraderie to attract and recognize/reward club participants.

Outside of club-level shooting events, all AGC range badge holders are free to use range facilities at any time during normal operating hours to enjoy their favorite shooting sports. This can range from a casual afternoon perforating paper targets from a benchrest or zeroing that new scope on the rifle range, to checking the performance of some new handloads on the pistol range, to participation in a club or open-to-the-public match, shooting in an evening pistol league, introducing a family member or guest to a shooting sport, or maybe just going after your personal best at "smoking" a round of clays on our trap range. Activities available to you at AGC are limited only by your time and shooting interests, and can include:

  • Recreational "fun" shooting any time during the normal AGC range operating hours
  • Informal and formal matches, programs, and club events which encourage adult and youth participation in the shooting sports
  • Participation in a club-level or in an AGC-wide High Power Team or Pistol League
  • Trap Leagues or weekly open-to-the-public trap shoots
  • Seasonal weekly Pistol leagues (outdoor pistol at AGC's range or indoor pistol at a Baltimore area range)
  • AGC-wide open trophy matches and competitive shoots
  • Club social gatherings (e.g., Fall Family Awards Picnic; Winter Holiday Party)
  • Formal Juniors Program in smallbore and high power rifle, pistol, and trap
  • NRA Marksman Qualification Program
  • Informal workshops and clinics on firearms-related topics (e.g., firearms safety, "show-and-tell" on types of firearms, reloading, etc.)

You are welcome to participate in as many or few of these activities as you wish. If you happen to be new to a particular type of shooting sport, competitive event, or type of firearm, there are club members who are more than willing to help you get involved. There's one thing that can be said about enthusiastic and experienced shooters: they are always eager to share what they know with those who share the same interests. Come get involved — join a shooting club and come out to the range!
